From 17-21 August 2009, scientists from across the country are taking part in the first Biological Sciences Congressional District Visits Week. Participants are meeting their members of Congress while they are back in their home states during the August recess. Scientists are using this opportunities to communicate the importance of federal investments in the biological sciences to their members of Congress. The event is also an opportunity for elected officials to tour scientific research facilities in their district.
This year, Biological Sciences Congressional District Visits Week is sponsored by the American Institute of Biological Sciences, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Natural Science Collections Alliance, Sevilleta Field Station, and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry-North America.
Individuals unable to participate in this event may instead visit the AIBS Legislative Action Center at www.capwiz.com/aibs to send a letter to members of Congress that demonstrates the value of federal investments in biological research.
