The Board of Directors and staff of the American Institute of Biological Sciences are pleased to share the 2012 AIBS strategic plan, released today online and in the October issue of BioScience . This plan is the product of a long range planning process, through which AIBS learned much about itself, the community in which it operates, and the professionals it serves. This plan focuses our efforts on our core strengths: informing decisions and catalyzing action to advance the biological discipline and profession in partnership with all members of our broad disciplinary community.
The AIBS strategic plan is launched with the endorsement of 24 recent AIBS presidents and is complemented by a commentary authored by Susan G. Stafford (2012 President), James P. Collins (2011 President), and Joseph Travis (2010 President, candidate for 2013 President), who were all integral to the plan's creation. Coupled with the governance changes endorsed by the membership in 2011, the leadership of AIBS is confident that these changes will position AIBS well into the 21st Century to continue to advance the field and profession of biology successfully, in a programmatically and financially sustainable manner.
I welcome your comments, questions, and interest in collaborations. Thank you for your continued support of AIBS.
