Public Policy Office

Federal Register Resource
The United States Federal Register is the official publication for federal Rules, Proposed Rules, and Notices of federal agencies, as well as Executive Orders and other Presidential Documents.
The AIBS Public Policy Office regularly monitors the Federal Register for items of importance to AIBS members and Member Societies and Organizations. To assist scientists and educators interested in providing comments on proposed federal Rules and Regulations related to the biological sciences, AIBS has established the AIBS Federal Register Resource. The AIBS Federal Register Resource provides timely information about pending federal regulatory matters. Each Monday, AIBS posts a summary of Federal Register notices from the previous week that may be of interest to a broad cross-section of biologists. An internet link provides detailed information about the notice, including contact information and comment submission guidelines.
The focus of the AIBS Federal Register Resource is on federal Rules and Regulations that are national in scope and potentially affect all biologists. As possible, notices of federal meetings, such as for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy or NSF advisory councils will be posted. If you wish to track federal Rules and notices of specific interest to you (e.g., meetings of area resource planning councils or federal actions related to a specific species) you may wish to use www.regulations.gov which enables you to search for items using keywords. Note, however, not all agencies use this system and some notices may not regularly appear on the Regulations.gov website.
Information about the federal regulatory process is available at www.regulations.gov.
AIBS offers tips for submitting comments.
To submit comments on items posted to the AIBS Federal Register Resource, follow the directions provided in the official notice. Alternatively, it is possible to submit some comments online at the government's www.regulations.gov website. Please be aware that some agencies do not currently participate in this website.
