Three winners were selected in the Faces of Biology Photo Contest, sponsored by the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS). The photo contest drew robust participation from researchers and students.
The contest was an opportunity to showcase the varied forms that biological research can take. The photos will be used to help the public and policymakers to better understand the breadth of biology.
Grand Prize Winner--Geoffrey Gallice
Geoffrey Gallice, a graduate student at the University of Florida, won the Grand Prize. His winning photo will be featured on the cover of an upcoming issue of the journal BioScience. Gallice will also receive $250 and a one-year membership in AIBS, including a print subscription to BioScience.
First Prize Winner--Laura Russo
First Place was awarded to Laura Russo, a graduate student at Penn State University. Her photo will be featured in an article in BioScience and she will receive a one-year membership in AIBS and a subscription to BioScience.

Second Prize Winner--Jessica Celis
Jessica Celis, a field technician at the HJ Andrews Experimental Forest, won Second Place. Her photo will be featured in an article in BioScience. She will receive a one-year membership in AIBS and a subscription to BioScience.
