Communicating Science: A Primer for Working with the Media
2008. By Holly Menninger and Robert Gropp, AIBS Public Policy Office.
Many scientists are reticent or anxious when approached by a journalist for an interview about their research or a newsworthy scientific issue. The good news is that interviews will get easier with practice. The purpose of this AIBS publication is threefold: (1) to persuade you, the scientist, that interacting with the media is a worthwhile endeavor; (2) to demystify the unknown with respect to telling a story and understanding how journalists operate; and (3) to provide tips and tools to alleviate some interview anxiety and prepare you for a successful interview.
