Monsanto's FieldScripts service, now being rolled out in the US Midwest, apparently represents a breakthrough in integrating scientific data and agricultural practice. As was reported by Susan Kuchinskas in Open Mobile Media, farmers will provide detailed information about crop yields to the company, which will combine it with meteorological and other data to recommend seed types and provide semiautomated prescriptions that optimize the flow of seed within a field.
