Representatives of AIBS member societies and experts on data science gathered at the AIBS Council meeting in December to brainstorm how best to ensure that biologists thrive in the age of ubiquitous data and federal pushes toward data publication. The day's events, supported by 10 cosponsors (http://io.aibs.org/ cm), exposed a rich seam of ideas for advancing training and best practices, with important roles identified for scientific professional societies, universities, and funding organizations.
