  • Notice of Meeting: Board for International Food and Agricultural Development

    Pursuant to the Federal Advisory Committee Act, notice is hereby given of the public meeting of the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development (BIFAD). The meeting will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at the Madison A&B on the Mezzanine Level, Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, 2660 Woodley Rd. NW, Washington, DC.     The central theme of this public meeting will be US Benefits Leveraged from Strategic Investments in Developing Country Agriculture and Food Security. Dr. Mark Keenum, BIFAD Chair, will preside over the public business meeting, which will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. ET with opening remarks. At this meeting the Board will address old and new business, and then invite Agricultural & Applied Economics Association members and other interested individuals to engage in a dialogue and provide feedback on a new study that is being commissioned by BIFAD and USAID. This study will conduct a meta-analysis of US benefits and capabilities that are leveraged from strategic investments in developing country agriculture and food security. Presenting at the meeting is Dr. Joseph Glauber, Senior Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), who is leading the study for BIFAD. Dr. Glauber served over 30 years at the US Department of Agriculture, including as Chief Economist from 2008 to 2014.

    Beginning at 11:15 a.m. ET, Chairman Keenum will moderate a half- hour public comment period. The public meeting will adjourn at 12:00 p.m. ET with Dr. Keenum's closing remarks.

  • Nominations to the Marine Mammal Scientific Review Groups

    SUMMARY: As required by of the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), the Secretary of Commerce established three independent regional scientific review groups (SRGs) to provide advice on a range of marine mammal science and management issues. NMFS conducted a membership review of the Alaska, Atlantic, and Pacific SRGs, and is soliciting nominations for new members to fill vacancies and gaps in expertise.

    SUMMARY: Pursuant to the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), Public Law 92-463, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) hereby provides notice that the National Environmental Justice Advisory Council (NEJAC) will meet on the dates and times described below. All meetings are open to the public. Members of the public are encouraged to provide comments relevant to the specific issues being considered by the NEJAC. For additional information about registering to attend the meeting or to provide public comment, please see "REGISTRATION" under SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION. Due to a limited space, seating at the NEJAC meeting will be on a first-come, first served basis. Pre-registration is highly suggested.

    DATES: The NEJAC will convene a public face-to-face meeting beginning on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, starting at 6:00 p.m., Eastern Time. The NEJAC meeting will continue August 15-16, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Eastern Time. The meeting discussion will focus on several topics including, but not limited to, environmental justice concerns of communities in Boston, MA and surrounding areas; discussion and deliberation of the final report from the NEJAC Environmental Justice and Water Infrastructure Finance and Capacity Work Group; and the proactive efforts of EPA Region 1 to advance environmental justice.

    One public comment period relevant to the specific issues being considered by the NEJAC (see SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION) is scheduled for Tuesday, August 14, 2018, starting at 6:00 p.m., Eastern Time. Members of the public who wish to participate during the public comment period are highly encouraged to pre-register by 11:59 p.m., Eastern Time on Monday, August 6, 2018.

    SUMMARY: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or Agency) is announcing the renewal of the Science Board to the Food and Drug Administration (Committee) by the Commissioner of Food and Drugs (Commissioner). The Commissioner has determined that it is in the public interest to renew the Science Board to the Food and Drug Administration for an additional 2 years beyond the charter expiration date. The new charter will be in effect until June 26, 2020.

    DATES: Authority for the Science Board to the Food and Drug Administration will expire on June 26, 2020, unless the Commissioner formally determines that renewal is in the public interest.
