Dear Senators and Representatives:

As you consider fiscal year 2012 appropriations for the National Science Foundation, students from across the nation urge you to make sustained investments in the nation's scientific research, education, and training programs. These investments are critically important engines of innovation and economic opportunity.

Over 2,900 students pursuing a Ph.D., Master's, or bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) have signed the enclosed letter. Collectively, the signatories are from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam. These students are our future scientists, engineers, mathematicians, doctors, veterinarians, natural resource managers, educators, and other workers who will require a scientific or technical skill set.

These students strongly believe that an investment in science is an investment in the future of the nation and request that you work aggressively to promote a wise federal investment in all fields of STEM research, development, and education.

Read the petition.
