Act now to help defend against proposed budget cuts to biological research!
Please call your Representative's office today to ask him/her to support increased funding for NSF. Ask s/he to sign the "Dear Colleague letter" being circulated by Representative Butterfield (NC).
The letter will be sent to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee with jurisdiction over NSF's budget. The letter requests $7.5 billion for NSF, a 4.6 percent increase over the 2014 enacted budget. President Obama's budget request included a 1.2 percent increase for NSF, but proposes $12.8 million in cuts to the Directorate for Biological Sciences.
So far, five Representatives have signed the letter: Cardenas (CA), DeLauro (CT), Kind (WI), Levin (MI), and Lipinski (IL).
Congress is considering appropriations for federal agencies for fiscal year 2015. It is important that members of Congress understand why federal investments in the National Science Foundation (NSF) are important to the nation and their district.
Act today to ensure that your Representative has time to sign this letter by 1:00 pm on March 27, 2014.
