On 3 May 2006, AIBS President Kent Holsinger and Ecological Society of America President Nancy Grimm sent a letter to members of the House Appropriations Committee asking them to support the President's budget for the National Science Foundation.

The Administration's fiscal year 2007 request of $6.02 billion for NSF "recognizes the crucial role that fundamental, peer-reviewed scientific research plays in driving innovation, creating new economic opportunities, and addressing important societal challenges," wrote Holsinger and Grimm.
