President George W. Bush has announced his intention to nominate Mark D. Myers as director of the U.S. Geological Survey. Myers is the former Alaska State Geologist and head of Alaska's Geological Survey. If confirmed by the Senate, Myers will replace acting director P. Patrick Leahy who will return to his previous position as Associate Director for Geology. The White House did not provide a date when the President will officially nominate Myers.
