- The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is requesting input into the deliberations of the Council of Councils Working Group on the Use of Chimpanzees in NIH-Supported Research. The working group is charged with developing a plan for implementing the recommendations made by the Institute of Medicine regarding the use of chimpanzees in biomedical and behavioral research. - The National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) will start construction of three research sites in early summer 2012. The sites are located in Colorado, Florida, and Massachusetts. The project is funded by the National Science Foundation. NEON anticipates beginning construction on an additional six to eight locations by the end of the year.
