- Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson has announced that she will step down after leading the agency for four years. Although Jackson's tenure was often fraught with tense relations with congressional lawmakers--especially over climate change--the agency created the first greenhouse gas regulations under her leadership.
- The nation needs one million addition graduates with an undergraduate degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM), according to a new goal set by the Obama Administration. The additional graduates will be produced over the next decade. The need for additional STEM-skilled workers was first proposed earlier this year by the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
