In response to the National Science Foundation's announcement that it is terminating Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants within the Directorate for Biological Sciences (BIO), AIBS wrote to Dr. James Olds, associate director for BIO. The letter calls for NSF to reconsider its decision.

The 6 June announcement affects the Divisions of Integrative Organismal Systems and of Environmental Biology. Other divisions within BIO ended their comparable programs a decade ago. Conversely, several doctoral dissertation grants programs still operate for the social sciences.
