AIBS Joins 300+ Organizations in Request for Extension of OMB Grants Rule Comment Period

AIBS joined 323 organizations in urging the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to extend the public comment period for a proposed rule that would substantially revise federal regulations governing grants and cooperative agreements.

The coalition argues that the proposal’s broad scope, which would amend hundreds of regulatory provisions affecting federal financial assistance programs across government—requires additional time for stakeholders to assess its potential impacts. The letter requests a 45-day extension, moving the comment deadline from July 13 to August 27, 2026, to ensure meaningful public input on changes that could affect universities, research institutions, nonprofits, and other recipients of federal funding.
